Rector's Study

Beloved St. Markans,

Father Timothy Perkins in his study This issue of our parish newsletter covers the month in which your bishop, clergy, and lay delegates of the parishes and missions of our diocese will gather in Annual Convention (November 16-17). As all of you know these are anxious times in the life of the Anglican Communion, the worldwide fellowship of churches of which we have and remain a constituent member. The Episcopal Church in the United States has taken actions for many years now that have strained the relationships between faithful Anglican Christians; and indeed, the relationship of our diocese with the national church has been seriously compromised by acceptance of teachings and practices that do not accord with Biblical Doctrine or Catholic Faith.

Our parish life has continued to be formed and shaped, as it has always been, by the challenge of the Word of God and the regular administration of the Holy Sacraments. Our bishop and the leadership of the Diocese of Fort Worth have continued to model steadfast faithfulness to “the faith once for all delivered” (Jude 3) and patient hope in the midst of uncertainty. The revelation of God in Jesus Christ continues to be the foundation on which our discipleship is built, and we trust in the Lord’s promise to be “with you always, even to the close of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

I appeal to each and every one of you to dedicate some of your prayer time each day for the coming weeks to intercession for our bishop, our diocese, and our beloved parish. As St. Paul reminds us, “God is faithful” (1 Corinthians 10:13); and I am confident in his guidance and direction as we continue to seek his holy Will for our church community. I believe I have been direct and clear over the years in communicating my loyalty and allegiance to Bishop Iker. I trust in your support and love and trust the Almighty guide and save. With full assurance of his faithfulness, I remain,

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Timothy P. Perkins , SSC
