RESURRECTION REFLECTION
Before the chirping of birds begins to announce that day breaks soon, before the lighter blue at the edge of the eastern sky contrasts with the darkness of the dying night, without a shout of triumph or trumpet-blasted fanfare, at a time between times which can not be measured, in an everlasting instant, all changes behind a stone in a garden.
No rock or wall or guarded tomb can hold or support reality as it had before. No betrayal, nor brutality, not even an execution can prevent this beginning again. The faithlessness and hopelessness of every human tendency toward despair receives an answer; and the springtime of eternity breaks forth.
In this beginning, God said, "Let him be Life; and behold, Christ is Life." And God saw the Life is good. And there was evening, but now there is Morning, an Eight Day.
My soul would shout or sing "Alleluia" but for the sweet solemnity of the silence. In the obscurity of an empty tomb the permanence of graves and "final resting places" is undone. Death has died. The end has become the commencement.
"Can these bones live?"
Close your eyes and peek behind the rolled-away stone. Quiet you restless mind and listen to the rhythmic wind, the breathing of the Creator, the breath of life breathed into the nostrils of the Risen son of Man. Open your heart and soul and feel the touch of the nail-scarred hands, the loving hands that us into his own Living Body, joined with one another in his love. Breathe in the Holy Spirit, and believe and hope and love again. This dawning, this awaking, is to glory, is to wonder is to praise.
HE IS RISEN;
HE IS NOT HERE.
Mark 16:6
