“Back to Usual”
by Fr. Timothy Perkins, SSC
As soon as you walked into the
church and reverenced the holy Altar and the Presence of
Christ in the Reserved Sacrament, you probably noticed
the return to the liturgical color of green. We are
back in “ordinary time.” But there is little that is
ordinary about our shared life in this parish.
We are completing what was an
absolutely extraordinary capital campaign. The
commitment of so many to God and to one another has been
demonstrated through our success in this challenging
endeavor, especially during these challenging times.
What unites us in Christ, often in spite of serious
differences of opinion or perspective, is so much more
powerful than anything that pulls us apart.
These things that unite us are the
typical things of our Christianity, things like worship
and prayer, familial caring, reaching out to others, and
the enjoyment of fellowship. These usual activities of
the life of St. Mark’s continue through every season,
liturgical, natural, or historical. Participating in
the Christian life at all times points us toward the
hope that undergirds our faith. In the usual, the
ordinary practice of our faith, we are assured of life
for all time, the eternal life offered in Jesus Christ
our Lord.
