Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

On Wednesday evenings, St. Mark's Christian formation offering for children ages 3-9 is the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Based on the Montessori method for educating young children, this program realizes the tremendous religious potential of the child in this age group and offers a contemplative, hands-on approach to nurturing the spiritual life of the child and his or her relationship with God. Specially trained catechists facilitate this program, which is divided into two age groups according to the developmental planes for educating children: ages 3-6 and 6-9. In the beautifully prepared environment of the atrium, the children of St. Mark's receive presentations on scripture and liturgy and work at their own pace with the materials provided. The child's immense capacity to wonder is cultivated as a personal relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and a warm sense of Christian community is formed.
