40 Days of Prayer for the Diocese

Our Diocesan Convention will be held November 14 and 15 this year.  At that gathering, your clergy and delegates will vote for a second time on a resolution to disassociate with the General Convention of the Episcopal Church.  The resolution passed by a very large majority on the first reading last year, but a second reading, ratifying the previous decision is necessary for enactment.  Everyone involved is aware of the momentous nature of this decision.  It must not be made without profound consideration and serious prayer.

Because this is the case, Bishop Iker has requested that we undergo a Forty-Day period of prayer and spiritual discipline, invoking God’s guidance as we seek his will for the future of the people and parishes of the Diocese of Fort Worth.  To honor that request, the Adult Forum on Sundays leading up to the Convention will provide instructions that are meant to guide and focus our prayers.  Materials for daily Bible study along with prayer suggestions are provided below.

How important it is that we not be distracted and anxious during these difficult times!  Our future is in God’s hands, and our trust is in him to guide and bless us.  Frequently, when I begin to worry, the words of the beloved apostle, St. Paul, give me needed correction:  “Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7.

DAILY SCRIPTURE READINGS:

Each day, reflect on how the appointed reading speaks to our current situation.  What does the passage say about the Church? Consider the ways that your own responsibility and faithfulness are to be challenged and strengthened.  Offer the prayers for the day (linked below) to conclude your time of study.
