The Curate's Corner
Dear Good People of St. Mark’s,
"Teacher, which is the great
commandment in the law?" And he said to him, "You shall
love the Lord your God with all you heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and
first commandment. And as second is like it. You shall
love your neighbor as yourself. On these two
commandments depend all the law and the prophets."
(Matthew 22:36-40)
It is with great pleasure that I
report back to each of you concerning the St. Mark's
youth service project held July 16-17. We arrived at
Trinity Church in Dublin, Texas, with 16 youth and 9
sponsors to tackle projects in the inside of the church,
the parish hall, office, kitchen, as well as, several
items throughout their surrounding grounds. Through six
hours of hard work, the youth triumphantly completed all
the assigned tasks. I must say all of the youth and
adult sponsors exerted a tremendous amount of energy to
make sure each project was done to the best of their
abilities. It was truly a labor of love.
After our day of service the youth
reflected over Jesus' response to the lawyer recorded in
the Gospel according to St. Matthew. It is through our
love of Almighty God who has literally created,
sustained, and preserved us that flows the love of our
neighbor. For you see it is God who has loved each of us
as His own children. Thus, it is through our love of God
that we go out into the world to serve our neighbors,
our brothers and sisters in God. The youth took their
love of God they have learned and expressed through
worship at St. Mark's Church and showed it to their
neighbors in Dublin, Texas. They did not know these
people, but it did not matter because they knew that God
loved them as His children. We concluded that this
service trip has opened each of our eyes to the power of
God's love working through us. My friends, our God is
truly awesome!
Faithfully in
Christ,
The Rev. Charles A.
