The Curate's Corner

Dear Good People of St. Mark’s,

This Lent, St. Mark’s Church is offering a Friday night Lenten series beginning February 8th and concluding the Friday before Palm Sunday, March 14th.   Each evening we will begin with Stations of the Cross at 6:00 p.m. and end with a simple supper followed by Compline. The six-week program series includes two music offerings, as well as, four meditation offerings given by the parish clergy.

The two music offerings are on February 8th and February 29th.  On February 8th, the women of St. Mark’s Parish Choir will join with the St. Ambrose Singers along with Katrina Burgraff-Kledas, a Mezzo Soprano, to offer Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.  It will be offered during the liturgy of Stations of the Cross.  On February 29th, following Stations of the Cross, the St. Ambrose Singers will offer a sacred concert of Lenten choral music.

After Stations of the Cross on February 15th, February 22nd, March 7th, and March 14th the parish clergy will offer a series of meditations that view the passion story through the eyes of different biblical characters.  These meditations will move through the biblical accounts of our Lord’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane all the way to his blessed death on the hard wood of the cross.  The program will conclude with a brief discussion on the evening’s meditation.

Please prayerfully consider this series to be a part of your Lenten Rule of Life.  You may also consider, as part of your Lenten Rule, to join us on Wednesday evenings for the Institute of the Good Shepherd.  In this adult form we learn and discuss the Christian faith and practice that has been passed down to us through the centuries.  The class begins with Evening Prayer at 5:15.

Faithfully in Christ,

The Rev. Charles A. Hough, IV
